BUW Internship

The Baptist Union of Wales is committed to investing in younger leaders and aims to provide opportunities for young adults to discover more of what God has planned for you.

What is our ethos?

Many internships look to maximise what they can get from an intern. We feel this is the wrong way round and should look to enhance the good things God is doing within the life of the church and the intern. It should provide you with space to reflect on what God is doing in your life and the prayerful support of those around to provide a stepping stone to all that God is leading you to in the future.

Who is the internship for?

The Baptist Union of Wales is looking for interns that have a heart to learn. To learn more about God, more about themselves and to explore the plans God has for their life. The internship programme is designed for Christians aged between 18 and 25 who have a heart for God, a heart for God’s work and a willingness to both explore a deeper understanding of their personal faith and serve within a local church setting.

How long is the program?

The internship program is flexible and would normally be for around 10 months. We are open to discussing a shorter or longer programme if your circumstances require.

Where would I be based?

The BUW internship programme is flexible and is designed to offer a unique and exciting opportunity to grow within a church-based environment within one or more of our network of churches across Wales.

  • You can do your internship programme through the medium of Welsh or English language. It might even be a great way to learn or improve your Welsh!
  • We have a diverse network of churches all over Wales that could introduce you to a new experience of church in a part of Wales you have never seen before.

What would I be doing?

A Church based intern will have opportunity to experience a breadth of work relating to ministry and mission within the context of a local church. Emphasis will be placed on personal discipleship, biblical studies, and context-based training together with practical experience and opportunity for assessment and reflection during the program. A current DBS certificate will be required.

We usually build internship program around the intern to allow you to explore areas of ministry and mission that interest you. Some of these include: –

  • Children, Youth and Families work
  • Pastoral Ministry
  • Missional living
  • Deeper Christian discipleship
  • Preparation for leadership

How much does it cost?

Depending on your circumstances we ask that interns are prepared to contribute towards their living costs for the duration of the internship. Some do this through part-time work, others by raising funds before starting. We do offer an amount towards the church for some of your expenses and together we are usually able to make the finances work one way or another.

Who do I contact for more information?
