There are a few months left to get involved with the amazing work happening in Zimbabwe this year. Read on below to find out more about how you can get involved this Harvest season, and the difference it will make…
An estimated 2.7 million people may have faced hunger in Zimbabwe this year due to the El Nino climate phenomenon, contributing to wider crises such as economic insecurity, cholera and other health-related issues. Christian Aid are doing critical work in the region, working with smallholder farmers who are most at risk of the impacts of climatic changes, by training them in climate smart agriculture methods and increasing their resilience with new and creative streams of income.
BUW have been supporting their work this year through the 2023-2024 appeal, Talents of Hope. So far churches across Wales have got involved with walks, lunches and creative fundraising events to raise support – including some walking many miles as part of our WALK! challenge! A huge thank you to all of the walkers who have already gone the extra mile, taking us to over 550 miles together so far.
Before the end of this year, we would love to see more support for the critical work Christian Aid’s teams are doing in Zimbabwe. There’s still a chance for you to get involved and make a real difference to farming communities before the end of this year.
Here are some ways you can get involved this Harvest season…
- We have a month left to go in our WALK! Wales and Zimbabwe challenge! Whether it’s 1km or 10km, you and your church could help provide knowledge and skills to train farmers to adapt to climate shocks by taking part in a challenge to walk the length of Wales and Zimbabwe collectively this Autumn. Help us reach our target, and find out how you can get involved here…
- If you’re not so keen on walking, why not organize a harvest meal and raise money for communities in Zimbabwe? Christian Aid have put together some fantastic resources which can be used to inspire harvest meals and events at churches. The resources on our appeal page also include great activities and ideas for services, as well as recipe ideas specifically from Zimbabwe in our youth resource.
- Pray for the people and communities of Zimbabwe. The Christian Aid team in Zimbabwe shared with us recently how we can pray for the country in a short video that helps us focus our prayers.
- Consider whether your or your church can give towards the work in Zimbabwe – every gift matters! Find out more below…
