Advertisement: BUW General Secretary

The Baptist Union of Wales is seeking to appoint a General Secretary to serve as the Chief Executive who will provide strategic leadership across the Union, the Welsh Baptist Union Corporation and Baptist Building Fund for Wales in a transformational period in its history.

We are looking for a visionary leader, ideally, with proven skills in governance, change management and spiritual leadership. An essential component of the role is to offer guidance and encouragement to the Union’s constituent Churches and Ministers.

The post is ideally for an ordained and accredited Baptist minister in good standing or a Baptist lay person in good standing with experience of outstanding leadership in a Christian, charitable or community context. Familiarity with multiple charitable governance requirements, experience of current developments within Ministry and Mission and fully conversant with the current Christian context in Wales will be expected.

It is an Occupational Requirement, in terms of the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 Part 1 Paragraph 3, that the post‑holder is a practising Christian who is in agreement with the Declaration of Principle of the Baptist Union of Wales, given the responsibility to provide spiritual leadership, to represent and promote the Christian vision and values of the Union, and to model Christian discipleship in the life of the Churches and staff team.

The ability to relate and communicate effectively in a bilingual setting is essential.
