Hope this harvest: BMS ‘Days of Plenty’

The pain and challenge of climate change, stories of hope, and Harvest Sunday inspirations from God’s work through our partners BMS World Mission this harvest time....

Wildfires in Canada and Hawaii, heatwaves in Southern Europe… these are the kinds of heart-breaking headlines we have been seeing across the news this past summer, alongside the real pain and cost of climatic changes endured by communities and ecosystems across the world.

However, our partners, BMS World Mission, are responding in real ways to some of the challenges of Climate Change faced by communities in Uganda through their appeal, ‘Days of Plenty’, and are encouraging us to do the same this autumn, individually and as churches in our Harvest events.

BMS are working alongside farming communities in Uganda to increase resilience to changing climate patterns and bring about real hope in the midst of these challenges. They are seeing tangible change as they equip farmers with drought-resilient seeds, training in new techniques, and spiritual support to those deeply affected by the emotional toll of the challenges they face.

They are also pointing to the hope of Jesus and God’s word in the midst of these challenges:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16: 33

(words of hope taken by Benon Kayanja, BMS Mission Worker)

This harvest, they are inviting you to be inspired by stories and lessons of hope from Uganda, and to consider how you can join in with life-changing work happening in some of the communities worst affected by Climate Change,

Why not have a look at the ‘Days of Plenty’ material from BMS below which provide inspiration for Harvest Sunday on their website, as well as helping us pray through, think about, and practically respond to the some of the hard questions and challenges we face through Climate Change…

We are encouraged by BMS’ work as we also launch our 2023-24 appeal with Christian Aid this year to support similar work alongside farmers in Zimbabwe affected by changing climactic patterns. Keep an eye on our website ‘Appeals’ page and social media in September for more information and resources.
